Halloween Magic

"We do not need magic to transform the world  We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already.  We have the power to imagine better."

Fun Food Friday and More

Our MWF classes used the pumpkin that our 3 y/o pounded and wrapped string around the golf tees. It was a little soft in spots today but we're done!

We have learned a lot about nocturnal animals and wrote a report.  We also chose our favorite nocturnal animal.  We use words like greatest, least, equal and zero!  What was your child's favorite?
Morning Class
Afternoon Class
Spider legs, spider web balls, monkey eyes, mouse ears and dragon teeth.  Yummy!

The Biggest Pumpkin

Parent brings you cardboard box because she knows you love
giant cardboard boxes (who doesn't?)

The box gets turned inside out and cut into a giant pumpkin.

Gather all the orange paper scraps and tear orange paper into scraps.
All classes turn the brown pumpkin into an orange pumpkin
(we seriously use a lot of glue at MCP)

Explain the voting process to MWF classes.
Each child goes to the 'voting booth' and
receives a triangle and a circle to secretly vote.
Morning class voted on the eyes and
the afternoon class voted on the nose
(not so secret because most kids told their friends how they voted ☺)

Eyes and nose get glued and the mouth is a pattern.
A pattern can have the same color and shape!
A few more days of Halloween fun left!

Push Pin Pumpkins

We have a lot of fun with pumpkins during center time.  Our TTh 3 y/o class uses safety goggles, a toy hammer and golf tees for some pumpkin pounding.

Mr. Potato Head parts make funny pumpkins.

New this year!  Push Pin Pumpkins for our MWF preK classes!  A pattern is started and the child receives five pins to continue the pattern.  Easy breezy fun for home!

We love working on our math skills with candy.  We can sort, make lots of patterns and count out ten pieces plus we can eat one or two!

Hey, America!

You have to agree with the Canadians! When we show the kiddos where Canada is located, we talk about Canada as our neighbor to the north.  Thanks, Neighbor!

Masterpiece Monday---A Sunflower Sketch

Today we looked at Van Gogh's sunflowers and talked briefly about warm colors and cool colors.  We learned that usually an artist will sketch (a new vocabulary word) the picture before they paint.  We looked at a few of Van Gogh's sketches and noticed there is no color.  We went to the tables to sketch.  Each child had paper, pencil, crayons and a sunflower.  We looked at the sunflower and noticed the middle is a circle.  Draw a circle.
We need petals.  Lots and lots of Letter V or Letter U make petals all around the circle.  After we sketch, we can color.  A stem?  Well, that's a straight line! We are also learning that drawing can be hard but every time we draw, we get a little bit better.

Next week we will sketch a sunflower on our canvas!  Get a pencil and have some fun sketching a sunflower with your child (you can color, too!)

Learning Our Letters at MCP

Our MWF classes are building up their ABC's with LEGOS.  Children are paired up and given a bag of LEGOS and they build their tower from A-Z.  We work on letter recognition in a lot of fun ways.  Want to find out how?

We glue...

We decorate our classroom letters...

We paint...

We play games...

There are a lot of fun and creative ways for your child to learn their letters!
