Each child was given a large piece of black construction and glue. We placed circles of all sizes and shapes in the center of the table. We advised the children to glue large circles first and then add smaller circles. Each child named their work.

Masterpiece Monday---Kandinsky's Several Circles
Last Monday, we continued our unit on Kandinsky. The children learned that usually an artist will give their work a name. We looked at Kandinsky's Black Lines, Red Oval and Concentric Circles. The last piece we looked at was Several Circles. How many is several? What is a concentric circle?
Each child was given a large piece of black construction and glue. We placed circles of all sizes and shapes in the center of the table. We advised the children to glue large circles first and then add smaller circles. Each child named their work.

Thank You for Everything!
MCP students are very thankful for...
Mommy, Daddy, their family, brothers & sisters, babies, Mrs. C, Mrs. U & Mrs. Q. They are thankful for the easy button, barns, dogs & cats, adventure, fall and the Cubs! MCP students are thankful for soccer, Saturdays, the seasons, their bed and their toys.
Since I was not very eloquent at the Thanksgiving program, I just want to say again how thankful I am for being able to do a job I love! Our MCP staff is always the best and devoted to your children and our program. Each day is a wonderful adventure at school and I am so thankful that you choose MCP to be your child's first school experience.

The Importance of Good Manners
What we need in the world is manners... I think that if instead of
preaching brotherly love, we preached good manners,
we might a get a little further.
Eleanor Roosevelt
"My Day"
February 17, 1938
Imagine fifteen hungry preschoolers. Now, get their hands washed, seat them at a table, feed them a snack and keep everyone happy. Snack time is a busy time at school but it is also a teaching opportunity. We focus on good table manners at our snack time and that is an important life-long lesson.
The children must wait until everyone is served and we say a short prayer before they can eat. This is really hard at first but now the children understand they must wait for their friends. We thank our friend who brought the snack. We ask the children to keep seated in their chair with their knees under the table. The children say 'Please' and 'Thank you' when their snack and drink is served. They are learning patience. They now know there are fifteen hungry children and only two teachers getting everyone snack.
The children are encouraged to talk with their friends at the table. When they are finished, they must remain seated until everyone is finished and we clean up. They wait for our 'garbage' helper and throw away their trash before leaving the table. Good manners are taught, encouraged and praised. Showing good manners is showing brotherly love.
The holidays are great time to encourage and reinforce your child's good manners. For more information---http://metamoracommunityprek.blogspot.com/2013/05/mind-your-manners.html and thank you!

Pizza My Heart
We watched a fun video!
We made pizza...
Today we ate pizza and graphed our favorite. We ran out of time to chart if the children liked our special pizza snack but there wasn't any pizza left! I'm pretty sure most would say 'yes'. How to---

I'm Melting!
Last week, our MWF preK students did some experiments. We are learning that liquids do not have a shape and need to be in a container. We also learned that temperature will change the shape of a solid or liquid.
We put ice cubes in a bowl and predicted what would happen. Two ice cubes were placed in a small plastic glass.
We put ice cubes in a bowl and predicted what would happen. Two ice cubes were placed in a small plastic glass.
The ice melted! We observed that all the ice had melted. What will happen if we put the containers back into the freezer? More predictions...
The water froze into a circle shape. Why? The containers are in the classroom and we will observe what happened over the weekend. Will our predictions be correct?
We will be using the words experiment, observe and predict with our preK students as we do more experiments throughout the school year.
What can you do at home? A lot...it's water and containers. Easy breezy! Experiment with different containers, sunny windows or place a container with ice outside where it is still cool and a container with ice inside. Ask your child to predict which will melt faster. Why?
Liquids and solids also mean ice cream fun for our preK kiddos! What's your favorite flavor?

We made ice cream (a quart of heavy cream, a can of sweet condensed milk and fifteen enthusiastic helpers to stir and mix). It turned into ice cream!
Did your child like the ice cream?

These graphs give us an opportunity to introduce concepts like greater, less, more, equal and zero. We count. We estimate. We write the number. As I write the words, the children are asked "What is this letter?" "Y" "Y-E-S spells 'yes'." We will continue this process throughout the year.
More food fun this week with fruits, vegetables, jellies and jams.

If I Were President...
The best way to predict the future is to create it.
Peter Drucker
In the Sunday, September 11th Parade magazine citizens and celebrities were asked to finish the statement-"If I were President..." (I vote Denzel Washington's answer the best).
If I were President, it is no surprise that I would work on quality early childhood education for all. We are working on making that a reality for our community and today is a great day to share our vision statement and core values. The process for our growth is slow and I often feel like I am playing the childhood game of 'Mother May I?" and only allowed to take baby steps. I have learned that each time MCP takes a step forward, we are getting closer to the finish line. Slow but steady wins the race!
Our vision...
Metamora Community Preschool’s vision is that all children in the Metamora area should receive quality early childhood education. Our goal is that a quality preschool experience will be available to all children in Metamora and surrounding communities.
Our values...
1.
Love each child
and family who enters MCP by making them feel important with an environment
that is warm, loving and inviting.
2.
Love, inspire and
transform children and families.
3.
Love our school
by doing more with less.
4.
Love our school
by being determined, passionate and humble.
5.
Laugh by creating
a fun and comfortable environment for children, families and staff.
6.
Laugh by
encouraging children and staff to be creative, adventurous and open to new
ideas.
7.
Learn by providing
quality education through creative and challenging experiences.
8.
Learn by pursuing
ongoing growth and education and discovering new ways to advance quality early
childhood education programs in our community.
9.
Learn by building
open and honest relationships with a wide variety of communication tools.
10.Learn
by working together and partnering with local
organizations to create a better community
for all.
