You Can't Catch Me!

Our MWF preK classes will be have some traditional and non-traditional experiences with some children's classics.  We read  The Gingerbread Man, The Gingerbread Girl and The Gingerbread Cowboy. After each story, the children were asked several questions and we compared the stories on a chart.  Was there a a gingerbread man in the story?  He ran from....(recalling details from the story).  Did he get eaten?

A new activity has been added to this unit. I showed the children a 'blank' gingerbread man and asked what kind of gingerbread man or girl would they create?  Lots and lots of creative ideas!  We had the children at at the art center in small groups while the remaining children were in centers.  Each child was given a  gingerbread cut-out, scissors and glue.  On the table was an assortment of art materials.  Since this was our first time with this activity I discovered I really underestimated the amount of time needed.  Almost all of the children put a lot of time, effort and thought into their gingerbread creation.  There were princesses, a tiger, a football player (Oregon Ducks), a ninja and more.
