A busy week with the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom books!
On Tuesday, we made a coconut tree and today we added letters.
Chicka Chicka 1 2 3 means an apple tree.
We'll add apples and numbers next week.
We also looked at a coconut and I opened it up for us to look inside. We looked at apples, too. At snack time, we tasted coconut and dried apples. Ask your child about coconuts and apples.

Unseasonably warm weather has us believing we are not too far off from summer weather (we here in central know better!) It's fun with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom & the beach for our TTh classes and a 'trip' to Hawaii for our MWF classes. The MWF classes will also have stencils in the art center so they can trace, color and cut out fish for our bulletin board.

The more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique.
Some of the friends chose to finger paint an elephant during center time.
For our group project, students chose either stripes or spots.
What did your child choose?

Only the weak are cruel.
Gentleness can only be expected from the strong.
We will be celebrating Valentine's Day today with our 3 y/o but on Thursday more fun with elephants and our buddy, Elmer.
Little handprints make cute little elephants.
Dot markers are at the easel.
Be like an elephant! Be strong and gentle!

Our MWF classes are exploring the works of Pablo Picasso. The children decided if they wanted to use rose or blue crayons and die cuts.
They learned how to lighten and darken colors with white and black. Paints are available at the easel to paint like Picasso!

We love providing new food experiences for the children at MCP. This year we have put those experiences into a short lesson we call 'Fun Food Friday'. This past Friday, we used conversation hearts for some tasty lessons in math.
Each child received a small box of conversation hearts. We sorted.
We looked for the group with the greatest. We found groups that had equal amounts.
We discovered that not all of the boxes had the same number of candies. We counted out ten candies (plus every once in awhile we ate one!)
A fun math activity for you and your child at home!

Our TTh class is learning a lot about elephants. Our friend, Elmer, was the inspiration for our special snack today. Pretzels look all the same but Skittles provide the color and the fun just like our buddy, Elmer! Lots of big fun with elephants at MCP!

This week we looked at the cereal boxes and made a list of how they are the same and how they different.
How are the cereal boxes the same? They are all boxes, made of cardboard, had cereal, are empty, have letters, numbers and colors, are rectangles and are glued.
How are the cereal boxes different? Some boxes are big. Other boxes are little. Some have animals or people. They are all different colors. All the cereals are different and different flavors. Some boxes had Box Tops. Some boxes have pictures of fruit or a spoon. Some boxes have pictures of marshmallows. Some boxes are taped. Some cereal was 'o' shaped or square shaped.

Just because we are done with formal instruction on Australia and aboriginal art doesn't mean we are done with Australia and aboriginal art in the classroom. We have a classroom book with words and photos about Australia.
Our students created aboriginal art last week on Masterpiece Monday.
Aboriginal art speed painting---
Aboriginal art with the child's hand---
Finished work! Easy to do at home with your child and the family.
There's still more, mate! We will continue to have aboriginal art at the easel during center time.
