MCP Homeschool-Fun Food Friday

Jelly beans are great for sorting, patterns and counting.  

This is an easy activity to do at the kitchen table.  Give your child some jelly beans and sort the jelly beans by color.  Your child can put the jelly beans in piles or line them up like a bar graph.  Use words like greatest, most, least, fewest and equal.  Count the jelly beans.

We also create patterns with the jelly beans.  We work on the AB, AAB, ABB and ABC pattern but you can get really creative with your child.  The jelly beans make fun colorful patterns.  

See if your child can count out ten jelly beans.  Challenge them to count out twelve or twenty.

Our last bulletin board of the year celebrates spring. Students cut leaves and birds and the garden blooms!

A simple leaf shape on green scrapbook paper was out for our 3 y/o students to cut.  PreK students use a stencil to trace and cut.

A black line helps students cut out birds for our tree and to sit on the power lines.

Fun Food Friday---Jelly Beans

Why use worksheets for math when you can use jellybeans?
Sort, count, create patterns, add and subtract.  Grab a bag and make math a sweet experience for your child today!

Easter Has Us Hopping

There are so many fun things to choose to do during center time!  What has your child been doing?



We need to fill our Easter basket with eggs!  Our TTh classes cut eggs and MWF preK classes have to trace and cut, make a tally mark and press 'the easy button'.

Glue the eggs in the basket, have a teacher check and press 'the easy button.'

Full Bloom

Our MWF classes celebrated the Japanese festival of 'hanami' prior to spring break.  We are going to work together and paint cherry blossoms on a large tree.

The First Days of Spring

Spring is here and the tree in our garden needs some green leaves.  Our MWF classes will trace and cut leaves.  Our TTh 3 y/o class wil cut the leaves and press the 'easy button.'  We have a lot planned for spring so check back soon!

The Carrot Seed 2018

Last week our TTh 3 y/o class had fun with The Carrot Seed  by Ruth Krauss.  This classic children's story shows that one determined little boy can grow one giant carrot.

Students are getting much better with a scissors and cut out their carrot shape. 

Anything orange makes a creative carrot collage! Paper scraps, pipe cleaners, pom poms, tissue paper, fun foam and more!

Hello Spring!

Earth Day 2017

I was also taught from a very young age to volunteer and serve the community.  I don't have a big enough platform to save the planet but I do work on my corner of Mother Earth. 

Paper is extremely expensive and preschoolers are big consumers of paper.  Coloring, writing, painting and just adding a few little squiggles to a piece of paper occupy the children at many of our centers.  It's an important part of our program and important to their growth and development.  We are very fortunate that over the years we have had donations of various types of office paper that we use in our art and writing center which saves MCP's budget.  We recently had a family move back into the area and she very graciously saved lots of the beautiful packing paper for our program.  This paper will be used at our easel for painting projects and will last us for several years.

Our budget means we have to be creative with projects and classroom activities.  Check out these past posts to see how MCP recycles and repurposes items in the classroom.

Hoe, Hoe, Hoe

It's time to get out in the yard (once everything dries out).  In our dramatic play, we have lots of props so the children are able to garden indoors.  Plastic milk caps and marker caps make good dirt.

Local nurseries are filling up with plants.  Visit your local nursery with your child and nurture a love of nature!

Jaybird Street

Calendars and magazines with large photographs of birds give our preschoolers a fun way to use scissors.  A black line around the bird provide an outline for cutting.  Blossoms on  our tree will soon turn into spring leaves!  We will see you soon.! 

Cherry Blossoms

Our MWF classes enjoyed a short fun filled trip to Japan to see Hanami-the cherry blossoms.  We learned children all over the world celebrate many types of festivals with their families.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar 2015

This week our TTh 3 y/o class will have many opportunities to have fun with Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  As a group craft, we will make a caterpillar on Tuesday and a butterfly on Thursday but there will be activities during center time for the children, too.

My Secret Garden

I have been wanting to have an indoor garden for our dramatic play area for awhile and this spring it is ready for digging, planting and more.  The garden has a cardboard house with some woods, a small wagon, plastic garden tools, silk flowers, plastic flower pots, some vegetables, a small basket (70% off post Easter!),  a watering can, a short piece of garden hose and some forest friends. A small bin of milk caps provide 'dirt' for flower pots and vegetables.   I had no idea if the kiddos would like this center or ignore it.  Well, they love it!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Enjoy some gardening with your child!  Plant a garden, plant some pots or just visit your local nursery!

MCP Spring Garden

Our garden bulletin board is in need of spring leaves.  There will be green paper with leaves ready for our 3 y/o to cut.  The preK students will use a stencil to trace and cut a leaf. All students will press the easy button when they finish.
