Pumpkin Power!

For the health and safety of our students, there are lot of MCP activities that we will not be able to have in the classroom this year.  You might want to try some these ideas at home with your child!

One of the easiest is just to get a pumpkin and cut it open.  Have your child look, touch and smell.  If you have a magnifying glass let your child look up close.  Pull seeds out and count.  How do the seeds feel?  Estimate.  Do you think there are ten seeds or more than ten?  One hundred?

Easy breezy pumpkin muffins!  Yummy!

It's just a can of pumpkin.  Cover up your child with a smock or old t-shirt. Use a plate or cookie sheet and draw shapes, numbers, and letters!
or just have some messy pumpkin fun!

Lots of fall fun for you and your child!

Jack-o-lantern Jars

Over the years, we have made hundreds of these jack-o-lantern jars with our little ones. These jack-o-lanterns are inexpensive and easy which is an ideal combination for a preschool project.  Whether it's your first child at MCP or your last, it brings us great joy when we hear that they are displayed in your home for Halloween!

Paint Beautiful Things

100 Wednesday at Home-Candy Corn

Grab your child's interest in 100 Wednesday with some fall candy.  Sort, create patterns, make rows of 10, count by 10's, count 10 pieces and much more.  Older children at home?  Have them create math problems with the candy pieces.  It's a sweet way to do math your child!

Pounding & Push Pins & Pumpkins

We have a lot of fun with pumpkins during center time.  Our TTh 3 y/o class uses safety goggles, a toy hammer and golf tees for some pumpkin pounding.

Push Pin Pumpkins for our MWF preK classes!  A pattern is started and the child receives five pins to continue the pattern.  Easy breezy fun for home!

Jack-o-Lantern Jars 2019

It's an MCP tradition!  Our MWF students will each make a jack-o-lantern jar.  We have created hundreds of these cute little jars with MCP students over the years.  They are cheap, easy and cute which is the perfect combination for crafting with kids.  Whether it's first child at MCP or the last, it brings us great joy to hear that they are loving displayed in your home at Halloween.

Not only are they cute but they are super easy. They require just a few materials and are perfect for the little battery operated candles.  These would be super cute to make for teachers , grandmas and grandpas!

*small jars:  salsa, olives, jams, etc. -anything with a wide opening (baby food jars are too small)

*orange tissue paper cut into small squares

*black construction paper cut for eyes, nose and mouth

*white glue

*water

*paint brush (big enough to spread the glue)

Dilute the glue with a little bit of water in a small bowl. Dilute enough so it is easy to brush but not watery. We do not use Modge Podge for crafts. We just dilute white or school glue.

Using the paint brush, teachers spread the diluted glue on a small section of the jar and the children cover with the tissue paper.  Children work their way all around the jar until completely covered.

Teacher spread a thin coat of the diluted glue over the entire jar. Add the facial features and let dry.

Have fun creating Halloween memories with your child!

Pass the Cranberries

We spend the month of November talking about all the foods our students may encounter on Thanksgiving.  On Monday, we had our Thanksgiving dinner.  We are hoping your child might take a taste of something new at your holiday gathering.

Fun Food Friday was ice cream.  Did your child like the ice cream?  It was a little too sweet for some.

Good-bye, October

There was a lot to do in our classroom in October!  Our MWF friends worked really hard tracing, coloring and cutting to create a spooky night!

There's more!
Push pins and a pumpkin are a fun way to practice patterns.

A sweet way to work on our math skills...

When we use letters, shapes and numbers we can learn how to draw. Our MWF classes learned how to draw a ghost, a spider, an owl and a witch.
