Square One

It was a busy day with our TTh 3 y/o class but we did get our project completed.  We started with one big square and then the squares kept getting smaller and smaller.  We are getting so good at listening to teacher directions and squeezing glue bottles!
  More glue...

When you are out and about with your child, make sure you are looking for shapes and colors!  They are everywhere!

Full Circle

Our TTh 3 y/o are seeing circles everywhere!  We painted with circles during first center time.
We went to the tables and glued big circles and little circles.  We are getting much better with glue!
Second center time we painted
more circles on big paper!

Circles are everywhere!
Look for circles with your child today.

Happy Fall, Y'all!

We love for the children to work together to create large pieces of art.  Communication and cooperation create colorful work!

I painted a tree and some friends glued on green grass.

We painted with corks and circle shaped lids.

Finally, we glued leaves to our tree for a fabulous fall look!

Happy Fall!

Arts & Crafts 2016

Arts and crafts are a very important part of our program at MCP.  The two are also very different.  Art is open ended.  We have crayons, markers, scissors, glue, cardboard and much more in our art center so the children have an opportunity to be creative on their own.
Crafts are done as a group at the tables with the teacher giving directions.  We use this opportunity to work on colors, shapes and spatial relationships (inside, between, top, bottom, etc.).  We also are working very hard on listening to teacher directions.
If your child's craft does not look like a bear, a flower, a pumpkin or whatever---no worries.  We are just starting the year. We know sitting with friends with colorful paper and a bottle of glue is hard.  The children are learning how to use an appropriate amount of glue, how to pick up sticky gluey pieces and soon we will be cutting & snipping shapes together.  Please note---we do not move or relocate pieces that the children place incorrectly.Your child's work is their work.  We are working really hard on listening to teacher directions as a group!

We have several mazes we set out in our Discovery Center.  Mazes provided an opportunity for the student who might not pick up a pencil or crayon to develop fine motor skills.  Students have to track the magnetic ball and problem solve.  Mazes often have two magnetic so children are able to work together.

More benefits of mazes...

Our MWF Classes Are Busy!

Each week there are many choices for your child during center time.  We often have die-cuts for the children to count.  Here are a few more activities that will be in our centers---

GeoBoards & Pattern Blocks

We do not use worksheets or printables to teach at MCP.  We have many manipulatives in our room to introduce, practice and master many concepts.  We tell the children there are shapes, numbers, letters and words everywhere.  We talk about shapes, numbers. letters and words during their center time, group time and during class.

We have geoboards and pattern blocks in our Discovery Center.  With a geoboard and rubber bands, your child can create geometric shapes, strengthen their fine motor skills and even create some beautiful art.
Pattern blocks are colorful wooden blocks that your child can either match a pattern on a template or create a pattern.  This is how we do math!

How can you help your child develop their math skills?

You can help your child with their math skills everyday because shapes and numbers are everywhere!

Lacing Cards 2016

One of the activities in our Discovery Center is lacing cards.  We create lacing cards that the children can take home.  Why do we do we have the children lace?  This type of activity helps your child develop and strengthen fine motor skills.  For more information check out this article from PBS---

More information and 'how to'---

You and your child can create lacing cards for home!

Our First Project-TTh

Our TTh 3 y/o class did a lot yesterday.  Many of our friends found the scissors in the art center!
After we did our 'jobs', we sat at the tables for a group project! We used glue.  We learned that we only need a 'dot'.  Glue also has to dry so we can take our project home on Tuesday.
Each child received a white piece of paper and a bottle of glue.
Lots and lots and lots of paper was placed in the center of the table for children to freely choose colors and shapes.
Some finished projects are ready for the family art gallery!

National Play-Doh Day

You either love it or hate it in your house (and in shoes, carpet, hair, toys...)  I love it and next Friday, September 16th is National Play-Doh Day.
